Leica Camera is pleased to announce the special edition Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, red anodized finish with a red anodized lens cap and gray cow hide leather lens case. There will be only 100 units of this special edition lens available worldwide. The technical features of this lens are identical to the black and silver versions.

The APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH standard lens is characterized in particular by extremely high contrast rendition from corner to corner of the image at maximum aperture and throughout the aperture range. The utilization of a floating element in its design ensures that this is also maintained to a great extent at close shooting distances. A total of eight lens elements are employed to achieve its exceptional optical performance. Three of these are made from glass types with anomalous partial dispersion to apochromatic correction and two of the others have a high refractive index. The specially formulated glass types employed are based on original developments from the former Leitz glass laboratory. The use of such glasses requires great effort and many years of experience. Thanks to the consistent advancement of optical technologies, processes have since been refined and perfected to achieve the best possible imaging qualities.

As is the case for all other Leica lenses, the Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH was designed and developed by Leica optical specialists in Wetzlar and represents the perfect combination of optical and technical expertise. As a particularly reliable product with enduring value with the quality guarantee “Made in Germany”, this lens is manufactured from the finest materials and is assembled completely by hand in an elaborate process. The combination of cutting-edge technologies and painstaking manufacturing procedures guarantees consistently excellent quality.
